Claire's birthday and the anniversary of her death are nearing. The days will come and go for many without incident, but will not pass easily for us. The holidays were a huge hurdle. I can only imagine that the next month will be tumultuous at best. I really cannot even begin to describe the memories that feel like they happened yesterday and how they are still so incredibly vivid. Certain sentences that a nurse or doctor said, a meal at the hospital cafeteria, a phone call, a look, a precious moment with Claire.
Somehow I have to keep getting out of bed. Somehow I have to get through the day, hopefully not after having cried on the way to work or during my prep period. Somehow I have to find the physical and emotional energy to both parent a toddler and nurture a baby who we hope will breath.
I'm assuming that if you are reading that you and I know and care for each other. My mom always told me to ask for what I need (Thanks, Mom), so if you have a word or two of encouragement I could sure as heck use it right now. Will accept hugs gratefully if words are hard to find. And the most thoughtful thing you could do? Remember Claire. And when you remember her, let us know. A thought, an action, a quiet moment... we will be lighting a candle (amongst other ways we will remember and honor her) on March 16th and April 13th and maybe any day in between. We'd love to have you join us. Thank you for the support you have already given us and the support to come.
